Product Details

MetroGel® 1% is manufactured by Galderma Laboratories in Canada and is FDA approved for use as a topical treatment for rosacea.  Its primary active ingredient is metronidazole and is classified as an anti-bacterial agent.   This is a powerful topical gel and must be used only according to your doctor's recommendations.

Clinical lab testing showed that this rosacea treatment experienced a 71% reduction in inflammatory bumps and pimples after a treatment period of ten weeks.  MetroGel is designed for application only once per day and is recommended for use as part of a daily skin care program. Because this rosacea product only addresses lesions, it should be combined with a cleanser for sensitive skin, a quality skin moisturizer and an effective sun blocking agent.

Because of the strength of the MetroGel's primary ingredient, metronidazole, adverse reactions in some individuals has been noted.   These adverse reactions include: burning, skin irritation, dryness, transient redness, metallic taste, tingling or numbness of extremities and nausea.  However, in clinical trial these side effects were generally transient in nature and occur primarily in the early stages of the rosacea treatment.

The MetroGel® 1% gel consists of metronidazole in a base of betadex, edetate disodium, hydroxyethyl cellulose, methylparaben, niacinamide, phenoxyethanol, propylene glycol, propylparaben and purified water.
